Understanding Panic Disorder

  • Those being assaulted by panic attacks will experience trembling, shaking and a feeling of being detached from their surroundings.
  • Victims may also sweat, feel nauseated, or vomit. Both men and women may also experience hot flashes.

Panic Disorder Treatment Methods

Psychotherapy is one method of treating the disorder. It allows a person to examine their fight or flight sensations, and then to calmly analyze their situation. Usually, treatments are less than 12. Patients learn coping strategies and techniques. At this stage, any type of family therapy may be unnecessary. Therapies can also impart effective relaxation techniques, along with cognitive therapies, that help patients to make a mind body/behavior connection they can leverage far beyond therapy sessions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT offers a combination of cognitive and behavior therapy. The goal of this discipline is to help patients change their thinking which will of course eventually change their behavior. CBT is practiced with a therapist or counselor for specific times during the week. If the patient is also being treated for a co-occurring disorder such as alcohol or drug abuse, their sessions are conducted at a rehab center as inpatient or outpatient treatments. In a controlled, clinical environment, treatment of panic disorder is more easily attainable.

While no one can clearly state the reason for panic attacks, the patient’s state of mind plays a critical role in why and how often they occur.

The good news is that no one need suffer from panic disorder when panic disorder treatment is so readily available. The signs are somewhat obvious. Anyone suspecting their self or a loved is suffering from panic order should seek immediate clinical help. Such disorders can lead to substance abuse and addiction to drugs or alcohol.
