It's never to late, Break the Addiction

Marijuana Rehab & Addiction Treatment Centers

With any addiction, it is important for the family to be involved in their loved one’s recovery.

People addicted to marijuana will display symptoms similar to other substance use disorders. Most addicted people have used over long periods of time, and have even used every day. Many have lost count of the times they have tried to quit. Others who abuse marijuana may also have other psychiatric disorders and be addicted to other substances like alcohol or cocaine. Medications and therapies that address mental disorders can help reduce marijuana use. The following treatments are popular and effective; they should also be administered by trained and qualified clinicians.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT attempts to teach people to identify and correct their addiction through positive thinking. Changing their mental attitude can help them adjust to situations in a more positive and meaningful way. Patients learn to address a range of problems, and to identify and avoid the elements that can cause a relapse.
  • Contingency Management. This is an approach that monitors behaviors, and administers rewards based on behavior that does, or does not, occur.
  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy. There is no attempt to treat the person, but rather to inspire them to pull from internal resources to change their behaviors and engage in treatment.

While there are no medications that completely address marijuana addiction, behavioral therapies are some of the best methods to help individuals. Sleep problems are known to accompany marijuana withdrawal. Thus, studies are continually being conducted to use medications that aid in helping a person sleep.

There are presently 25 states where marijuana is legal for medical purposes. As such, there is a national discussion taking place with respect to those who are trying to break free of their addiction, and those who are prescribed medical marijuana for their illness.

Family Therapies

With any addiction, it is important for the family to be involved in their loved one’s recovery. The fact is, addictions can cause major divides in family relationships. Therapy and counseling can help families to better understand their loved one’s struggles. This helps individuals recover faster with hopes for full recovery. With the right mental attitude from both the patient and their family, recovery is possible.
